Kat said: "as a smoker and an athlete, I am not a fan of the “no smoking” campaign", which makes no sense. Kat is entitled to smoke and to his opinion , but there is irrefutable evidence that second-hand smoke is harmful. So I have a right to not be subjected to any, at all, period. I also am allergic to smoke. I notice smokers and their smoke at great distances. I don't have a solution for Kat, but maybe quit smoking for you own health. I did.

OK, I'll be the first to comment...as a smoker and an athlete, I am not a fan of the "no smoking" campaign. But then again, as a smoker, I am not a fan of smoking. And as an athlete (who can still run a 7.5 minute mile) my lungs are not fans of smoking either. It should remain my right to smoke in public, especially in open air atmospheres (don't let us turn into Calabasas). I consider it a public service actually. Think of the millions of people that would be added to the unemployment lines if we were all forced to quit smoking. I'd hate to see more people forced out of a job. :)

I'm often confused by the length of these news cycles. Really, all that happened is another celebrity had infidelity issues. Why is this all over the cable news networks?

Ok, I actually do know, I just wanted to use my opening question to pique some interest in my comment. The news networks have 24 hours of programming a day that needs to be filled with information. And since we as consumers of news are relatively unsophisticated louts, they can't dive deeply into the subtle nuances of foreign policy.

What we are left with is trivial, meaningless nonsense, perpetuated by the very advertisers that benefit from it. This is our fault for accepting it, Ron... don't you agree?

I could not agree more with your points! I also agree with Mr. Minkoff (well said, sir!). I am reminded of when my daughter recently got into an accident on her bicycle where she went face first into the sidewalk. Really messed up her teeth and mouth. At the emergency room the Doctor asked her if she was wearing a helmet and looked at her disapprovingly when she shook her head (she couldn't speak, mouth problems) no. My thought was...well, unless bike helmets look like the kind that they wear in the NFL, what was the point of that question, exactly? Crap like that makes my head want to explode....

Good point, Ron. Unfortunately, the public now overwhelming votes for nanny-state candidates who insist on making ordinary parenting decisions into unlawful, or even criminal, activity (that goes for Republicans and Democrats). The government's job is not -- and was never intended by the Founding Fathers -- to create more criminals; it is to protect our freedom. We need to get back to that fundamental understanding and remember it next time we vote.
